SB2017

It was a pretty laid back springbreak this year....the highlight being Liv got a fish, Mr. Skittles.  At the pet store, she took her time picking out the fish. She was pretty pumped to bring it home. Her other fun thing was she got to spend some time with her favorites, the Chesnuts. She is mesmerized by the movie Trolls this moment and constantly asks to watch her Troll movie, she is Princess Poppy. Her imagination is awesome-role playing is one of her strengths. Her phrases we are enjoying right now are "sure", "it's my jam",  .  At daycare, dress up and kitchen are her favorite centers. Her friends and her play pirate ship quite often and search for buried treasures. Since being in the 3s, she has really only had one incident-she put another kid in the toy box and shut it on him. Apparently he was taking toys from her and her friends. On one hand, I laughed and thought 'good job for standing up for yourself' and the other, we had the talk of 'use your words'. We are looking foward to her doing a couple of weeks of basketball through Waukee Parks and Rec.

Ben is continuing to be a smiley guy-it lights up his whole face. We go for weekly weight checks to make sure he continues to go (not decrease) or flatline-he just doesn't seem to do that well with formula. He is not the best eater, spits up a lot, doesn't want to eat, etc. He however, does enjoy the solids. So far, he is favoring the green veggies and squash. The carrots and pears are taking a bit more time to get used to. We will continue to add in other kinds and hope he gets his needed calories. He tries to help by grabbing the spoon to shove it into his mouth all the while grinning at you. Another big thing happening for Ben is he got his head measurements for his helmet-by the end of March he will be sporting a little accessory, minimum of 4-6 months. His skin still has flare ups so we cannot wait for continuous good weather.  He loves jumping in his exersaucer, is rolling all over, sitting up, and seems to want to pull himself up-I'm sure it won't be long. Again, I am reminded that the days are long, but the months/years are short. I can't believe this guy is already 7 1/2 months. Before I know it I will be planning his 1 year birthday party.

We also hit the post daylight savings struggle. It really didn't seem to mess with the kid's sleep schedule until the following weekend. Then Liv did not go to bed until 9 or almost 10! She does still wake up to get someone to come snuggle with her. Ben continues to wake up a couple times a night to eat and get a few snuggles in.

Storytelling

It's been awhile since we've got to spend just time with Olivia, so we took the chance to take her to a show at the Des Moines Civic Center. We went to see Eric Carle's Stories (Brown Bear, Brown Bear/Papa Get Me the Moon/The Very Hungry Caterpillar). We made a little day out of it as we hit up Palmer's Deli for lunch beforehand. Before the show, there were many activities to go along with it, we did not know this so we showed up closer to the show. I'll have to do my research ahead of time next time. Some of the activities we did get to partake in were building a telescope and a hungry caterpillar. She says her favorite part was the purple cat.
